Social Media Disclaimer

The Drone4Build project engages with the community through certain social media platforms, specifically LinkedIn (and potentially others). This section explains our presence on social media and provides important disclaimers about data privacy and responsibility when you interact with us on those platforms or encounter social media content via our website.

Project Presence on LinkedIn

Drone4Build maintains an official project page on LinkedIn. The purpose is to share updates, results, and networking opportunities related to the project, in line with Erasmus+ dissemination guidelines. Your participation on that platform is completely voluntary.

When you follow, like, comment on, or share our LinkedIn posts, you are doing so on the LinkedIn platform, which has its own terms of service and privacy policy. We (the Drone4Build consortium) do not have full control over LinkedIn’s data processing. Your use of LinkedIn and its features is at your own responsibility and governed by LinkedIn’s user agreement and privacy policies.

Data Privacy on LinkedIn

If you have a LinkedIn account and you interact with our page, LinkedIn may process your personal data such as your profile information (name, job title, photo, etc.), your network of connections, and your interactions (e.g., that you liked a post). LinkedIn is a joint controller of this data in many jurisdictions. We do not export personal data of individual followers from LinkedIn. We can see aggregated insights that LinkedIn provides (for example, the number of impressions or likes a post received, demographic breakdowns like industries of our followers in percentage form), and we can see your public profile if you comment or send us a message.

Keep in mind:

  • Any information you share on LinkedIn (including comments on our posts) can be seen by other LinkedIn users (depending on your privacy settings and the visibility of the post). Please avoid posting personal or sensitive information on a public forum. We are not responsible for what other users do with information you post publicly on our social media pages.
  • If you send us a private message on LinkedIn, we will use that information to respond to you, but we may suggest continuing the conversation via email or other channels if appropriate, especially if it involves personal data.

LinkedIn’s Data Collection

LinkedIn may use cookies, pixels, and other tracking to collect data about your browsing, including when you click a link to LinkedIn or visit a site with LinkedIn plugins. For example, if our website has an embedded LinkedIn “share” or “follow” button, LinkedIn might log that you visited our site and associate that visit with your profile if you are logged in to LinkedIn. This could result in LinkedIn using that data to personalize content or ads you see on their platform. This processing is covered by LinkedIn’s own privacy and cookie policies, not ours.

We advise checking LinkedIn’s Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy to understand what data they collect and for what purposes. Typically, LinkedIn (as of current policies) might collect data such as your IP address, browser type, timestamp, and interactions with plugins, and use it for improving their services and targeted advertising.

No Endorsement by EU

While we use LinkedIn to promote our project, it does not mean the European Commission or Erasmus+ formally endorses LinkedIn as a platform. We choose it as a popular professional network to reach our stakeholders.

Third-Party Platforms and Data Use

Beyond LinkedIn, if Drone4Build creates accounts on other social networks (like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.), similar principles apply:

  • Platform Policies Apply: Each platform has its terms. By using or interacting with our content on those platforms, you are subject to those terms. We encourage you to review their privacy settings and policies.
  • Data Sharing: Social media companies often share insights with page administrators. For example, Twitter might show us how many impressions a tweet got. But the raw data (like who exactly saw it) is not provided to us. We may see your public profile if you interact (like on Twitter we see who retweets or replies).
  • Public Interactions: Remember that retweets, replies, public comments, etc., are generally visible to the world. Do not share personal data you wouldn’t want public. We cannot control how others might use information you post on those platforms.

No Liability for Third-Party Platforms

The Drone4Build consortium is not responsible for the actions, content, or data policies of social media platforms such as LinkedIn or others. These are third-party services over which we have no control. We do not have ownership or governance over how they operate, how they secure your data, or how they might change their services. Therefore:

  • We cannot be held liable for any privacy breaches or data usage that occur on these platforms. For example, if LinkedIn experiences a data leak or if their handling of your data results in unwanted marketing, that is outside our purview.
  • We do not guarantee the uptime, availability, or functionality of our social media pages. If a platform is down or discontinues service, Drone4Build has no control over that.

If you choose not to use social media, that’s perfectly fine — all critical information about our project will also be available on our website or through official reports. Following us on social media is optional and meant for convenience and engagement.

Integration on Our Website

Our website itself may include social media elements (such as embedded videos from YouTube or posts from LinkedIn). As mentioned in our Cookies Policy and Privacy Policy, any such embedded elements can act as if you visited the third-party site directly.

For instance:

  • If we embed a YouTube video, once you click play, YouTube (owned by Google) might set cookies and track that activity.
  • If we have a LinkedIn feed widget, as soon as it loads, LinkedIn could record your visit through the integrated widget and associate it with your LinkedIn profile or use it for analytics/ads.

We typically design the site so that such third-party content is inactive until you interact (when feasible), or we rely on your cookie consent settings (e.g., not loading a LinkedIn plugin unless marketing cookies are accepted). However, please be aware that if you do interact and thereby load such content, data will be exchanged with the third-party.

Important: Through LinkedIn buttons or widgets embedded on a website and the use of cookies, it is possible for LinkedIn to record your visit to our site and associate it with your LinkedIn profile; this data can be used by LinkedIn to offer tailored content or advertising to you. By using our site’s social features, you acknowledge this potential.

Guidance for Users

Privacy Settings: Check your privacy settings on LinkedIn (and any other social network you use). For example, LinkedIn allows you to control whether others see your connections, or whether data about off-LinkedIn browsing is used for ads (see LinkedIn’s settings under Security and Privacy). Adjusting these can help protect your information.

Professional Conduct: Our social media pages are public and often associated with professional communities. Please engage respectfully. Any abusive or inappropriate comments on our pages may be removed, and we reserve the right to block users who violate community standards or platform rules.

Personal Messages: If you need to share personal information with the Drone4Build team (e.g., your email or other contact details for follow-up), consider doing so through a private message or email rather than a public comment. When reaching out via direct message on social media, keep in mind the platform can still read those (for moderation or policy reasons).

Third-Party Links on Social: Our social media posts may sometimes link to other websites (project partners’ sites, news articles, etc.). Similar to our web links disclaimer, we aren’t liable for content on those external sites.

EU Regulations and Social Media

As part of an EU-funded project, we aim to uphold data protection principles even on social media. We follow the guidance by the European Commission on social media use by projects. For example, we apply the EU emblem and funding acknowledgment appropriately on social media posts where feasible, and we avoid sharing any personal data of individuals (e.g., participant names or photos) without consent.

However, it’s important to reiterate that any data you provide directly to a social media company is under their custody. If you have concerns about how social media platforms handle your data, you should consult their GDPR compliance statements or reach out to them directly.

Final Disclaimer

Your interactions with Drone4Build on social media are appreciated, and they help disseminate our project’s results. But please be aware that these interactions are also subject to the terms, conditions, and algorithms of those social networks. We provide information and engage in conversations to the best of our ability, but we cannot guarantee privacy or outcomes on external platforms.

Neither Drone4Build nor any of its partner organizations will be held responsible for any misuse of data or content by social media providers or other third parties accessing those platforms. We recommend users stay informed about social media privacy issues (for instance, changes in LinkedIn’s policies, or general news about social media data protection).

In summary, while we extend our project’s outreach to LinkedIn (and possibly other channels) for your convenience:

  • Interacting with us on those platforms is optional and done at your own risk.
  • We disclaim liability for third-party data processing.
  • We encourage you to use those services judiciously and be mindful of your own digital footprint.

If you prefer not to use social media, you can always get project updates directly from our website or by contacting us via email. The absence of social media engagement will not hinder your ability to access public project information.

Contact: If you have specific questions about our social media use or a situation involving our social media pages, please contact our team at info@abstract-technology.de. We will do our best to address concerns, within the scope of what we can control.
